ACFE GMM and Event on New Private Investigation Act | March 27th as of 17h30 – TriFinance Zaventem
ACFE Belgium Chapter organises an event on the Private Investigation Act on 27th March 2025, immediately after its General Members Meeting.
Location is TriFinance Belgium, Excelsiorlaan 4B, 1930 Zaventem. Thanks to Alexander Van Caeneghem, Country Managing Director TriFinance Belgium and Annemie Pelgrims, Expert Practice Lead Risk TriFinance Belgium for hosting the event.
Jonas Maas, Criminologist, PhD Researcher on Private Investigations (Universiteit Gent), will introduce the topic. Two of our ACFE Belgium Board Members, Maarten Van Knippenberg and Jens Moerman, will provide you with a clear overview of the key focus points and changes, followed by the opportunity for an in-depth Q&A session. This new legislation applies to companies carrying out private investigation activities as well as internal private investigation departments within companies (such as an internal fraud cell). This new framework, which replaces the outdated Act of 19 July 1991 regulating private detectives, includes a lot of formalities such as: obtaining a license, maintaining an investigation file, assignment register, regulation for employers, etc. Moreover, it also creates new guidelines for conducting well-defined investigative acts (such as observations and interviews) that will have a significant impact on internal investigations.
This seminar is aimed at both established private investigators and companies with structural private investigation activities, as well as human resources departments of small and large companies.
We will provide an extensive Q&A session. Additionally, individual advice may be offered afterwards.

Jeff Wicks is a South African investigative journalist and member of News24’s investigations team. He is the co-author of Eight Days in July: Inside the Zuma unrest that set South Africa alight, published in 2021.
He is a two-time winner of the prestigious Taco Kuiper Award for Investigative Journalism, and a recipient of the Nat Nakasa award for courageous journalism in 2024.
He has worked as a journalist for 18 years in various roles for regional and national titles across the country. His current focus is on issues pertaining to crime and justice, intelligence and the underworld. He lives in Johannesburg.

De ondervraging, het cruciale (eind)onderdeel in een onderzoek, toch? Of hangt dit vooral af van de context, het verloop en de bevindingen van het onderzoek? Wat alleszins buiten discussie staat, is het belang van de verantwoordelijkheid, het aanpassingsvermogen van de ondervrager en het inzicht in de eigen (beïnvloedende) rol.
In deze sessie willen we dieper ingaan op enkele concrete knelpunten en vraagstukken uit de praktijk: Hoe kan je je wapenen tegen aanvallen op het verloop van het gesprek? Hoe kan je in alle situaties het onderste uit de kan halen? En hoever kan je gaan in je sturing en beïnvloeding?

Fraud and Asset Recuperation | 15 June 2022 | 17h-19h
The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Belgium has the pleasure to invite its members and associates for an event on “Fraude and asset recuperation” followed by an informal network drink.
The event will take place on Wednesday June 15th 2022 from 17h00 – 19h00 at Modero Bailiffs Antwerp.
The speakers will focus on the different aspects of solvency assessment and its relations with asset recuperation and fraud detection. More specifically, they will focus on the data sources being used, how models are built on top of those databases and how this translates to effective asset recovery. In addition the speakers will demonstrate how databases are being organised into powerful networks that allow to detect fraud from a contagion perspective.
Sonny Luypaert (President ACFE Belgium): moderator for the Q&A
Dr. Frederik De Grove (Lead Machine Learning and A.I., Alice) will address the ins and outs of the data and models being used in the context of solvency modelling, asset recovery and fraud detection from a Bailiffs perspective.
Jan De Meuter (CEO Modero) : Modero is the leading bailiff network in the use of data sets to optimise recuperation and detect fraude at an early stage.
An exchange between the fraude examiners and bailiffs will provide some interesting insights on possible best practices and employed methods in case of fraude.
There’ll be time to delve deeper into the various themes and for networking.
